Our Story

I wanted to give a meaningful baby shower gift to a friend, but couldn’t find anything that combined a great product and an important issue I cared about. I found out that in my backyard in Franklin County, 3 babies die each week and that a local organization, CelebrateOne, was doing amazing work tackling this issue - and the idea for the Shop CelebrateOne was born.

We believe that you can do business while doing good. We are on a mission to empower people to make a significant impact in their local communities through the products they buy.

Imagine you’re an expectant mother with 8 weeks left until your baby is due. You don’t have access to a reliable car, health insurance, or guidance to help answer important questions about how to best take care of this new life you’re bringing into the world. You’re worried. You don’t have enough help.

Now imagine, you have access to prenatal care, reliable transportation to doctor’s appointments, safe and stable housing, and guidance on who to best take care of yourself and your baby. You are excited and confident to become the best mother you can be.

These two stories highlight the health inequity in our neighborhoods. Every week, 3 families lose a baby in Franklin County, and African American babies are dying at three times the rate of white babies. This rate of infant mortality shows the significant gap in the health and vitality of our community.

We believe every baby deserves to celebrate his or her first birthday.

We believe communities can band together to raise the level of the quality of life for everyone, not just a few.

We created the Shop CelebrateOne in partnership with CelebrateOne, a non profit whose mission is to reduce infant mortality by 40% by 2020.

We are using a Buy One Give One model.

When you buy a product on Shop CelebrateOne, you will also give one SleepSack to a newborn in need.

What is a SleepSack? A SleepSack is a wearable blanket that replaces loose blankets in the crib that can cover a baby's face and interfere with breathing, a significant factor in sleep related deaths.

With every purchase, you are giving the gift of life.

If you're looking for a way to give an amazing gift while giving the gift of life, Shop CelebrateOne.

In June 2014, the Greater Columbus Infant Mortality Task Force ended its 6-month process with the release of its final report to the residents of Franklin County. In it were eight recommendations to reduce the community’s alarming infant mortality rate by 40 percent and cut the racial health disparity gap in half by 2020.

CelebrateOne was created in November 2014 to carry out the Task Force’s recommendations and ensure Franklin County meets its ambitious goal.

The greatest gift our community can give each baby is a healthy and safe first year of life that sets him or her on a path to thrive each year beyond that.

To do so, CelebrateOne and its partners will take on the most significant factors that contribute to Columbus’ high infant mortality rate:

Babies born too small or too soon

Sleep-related deaths

Exposure to tobacco smoke during pregnancy and secondhand smoke in their early days of life.

Health inequities. An infant mortality rate for black babies that is 2 ½ times higher than the rate for white babies.
